Job summary

Southland Industries, Inc. seeks an experienced Estimator to prepare budgets, concepts, and detailed estimates for mid-to large-scale projects. You will analyze drawings, perform take-offs, and price materials using estimating software.

In collaboration with the Lead/Chief Estimator, you will finalize FEBs and present bids to executives, then generate project review reports and mentor junior staff. Responsibilities include complex document red-lining, client meetings, and staying current with

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred
• Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience, including managing people
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong analytical skills
• Strong ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems
• Strong ability to read and understand specifications and drawings
• Strong knowledge of construction costs and principles
• Strong ability to perform mathematical calculations and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and prorations
• Ability to translate concepts and information into images; applies design principles
• Strong Excel and Word skills
• Strong knowledge of Quick Pen Auto Bid Mechanical and Sheet Metal Estimating software
• Proficient in Accubid Anywhere Estimating Software

Responsibilities

• Prepares preliminary budgets, conceptual estimates and detail estimates for medium-size to larger projects
• Analyzes drawings and uses software to perform material take-offs and pricing
• Performs complex red-lining of documents
• Partners with Lead/Chief Estimator to finalize FEB and present bids
• Generates reports and interprets them for Project Review and builds FEB
• Participates in client interview meetings to discuss project
• Stays current with best practices and shares information with team
• Trains and mentors less-experienced Estimators
