Job summary

Red Seal Recruiting Ltd. seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer for a heavy industrial steel environment. You will troubleshoot and optimize plant-floor mechanical and hydraulic systems, lead reliability initiatives, and manage capital projects from concept to completion.

The role requires 10+ years in steelmaking or similar settings, plus hands-on field work, contractor coordination, and strong problem-solving skills to improve safety, uptime, and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; 10+ years in steelmaking or heavy industry.
• Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical equipment, hydraulics and plant systems.
• Experience with capital projects, equipment installations, and safety compliance.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, improve, and optimize mechanical and hydraulic systems across the facility.
• Identify issues and lead reliability and continuous improvement initiatives to boost uptime.
• Support melting and steelmaking equipment upgrades, modifications, and installations.
• Provide engineering input for large baghouse and environmental systems and compliance.
• Lead projects from concept through installation, commissioning, and completion.
• Prepare scopes, specifications, bids, cost estimates, and schedules.
• Evaluate suppliers, review proposals, negotiate contracts, and oversee outside resources.
• Coordinate with contractors, Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering to keep projects moving.
• Manage budgets, schedules, safety requirements, and performance expectations.
