Job summary

Mercury Systems is seeking a senior mechanical engineer to join our team in Torrance, CA, onsite. You will design, analyze, and test rugged subsystems and complex PCB assemblies for aerospace/defense applications, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver mission-ready solutions.

You will lead full lifecycle activities, produce detailed 3D models, maintain BOMs, and ensure documentation meets MIL-STD-810 for severe environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering required.
• Typically requires at least 4 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
• Experience designing electronics packaging for severe environments per MIL-STD-810.
• Proficient in 3D CAD (SolidWorks or CREO).
• Experience with GD&T, ASME Y14.5 and Y14.100.
• Familiar with manufacturing processes and configuration management.

Responsibilities

• Lead products through full lifecycle from concept to production release.
• Design mechanical packaging, connectors, cables, and assemblies for rugged subsystems and PCBs.
• Collaborate with Hardware, Manufacturing, Quality, and Procurement teams.
• Develop and maintain BOMs/PLs for configuration and production control.
• Draft and manage Engineering Change Requests and Orders.
• Design and document mechanical hardware for rugged military/space use.
• Perform thermal and structural analyses and simulations.
• Create fixtures to support testing and advanced manufacturing.
• Create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings.
• Produce clear design documentation for internal/external audiences.
• Support MIL-STD-810 environmental verification testing.
• Provide hands-on support during initial build validation.
• Perform failure analysis with Manufacturing and QA teams.
• Develop test plans and inspection reports for verification/validation.
