Job summary

Mercury Systems seeks a principal mechanical engineer to design, analyze, and test rugged subsystems and PCB assemblies for aerospace and defense applications.

You will lead crossfunctional teams, perform thermal and structural analysis, and develop detailed documentation while mentoring junior engineers. This role emphasizes hands-on design in a fastpaced, multidisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering is required.
• Typically 6+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
• Familiarity with GD&T, ASME Y14.5, Y14.100.
• Experience designing electronics packaging for severe environments, MILSTD810 compliant.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks or CREO.
• Broad knowledge of manufacturing techniques including machining and postprocessing for CCAs and metal components.

Responsibilities

• Lead products through the full lifecycle from concept to production release.
• Mechanical packaging design for rugged subsystems and complex PCB assemblies.
• Collaborate with Hardware/Electrical, Manufacturing, Quality, and Procurement teams.
• Develop and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs/PLs).
• Draft and manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
• Design mechanical hardware for rugged military and space environments.
• Conduct thermal/structural analysis or simulations for performance.
• Create 3D models and detailed engineering drawings.
• Produce clear documentation for internal and external audiences.
• Provide handson support during build validation and ECR/QA processes.
• Mentor and train junior engineers.
