Job summary

Mercury Systems seeks a principal level mechanical engineer in Torrance, CA to design, analyze, and test rugged subsystems and complex PCB assemblies for mission-critical aerospace and defense products.

The role involves mechanical packaging, BOM management, ECN/ECO handling, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure robust performance in harsh environments, aligned with MIL-STD-810 requirements. You will produce detailed 3D models and drawings for manufacturing and testing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering is required.
• Typically 6+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
• Familiarity with GD&T, ASME Y14.5, Y14.100.
• Experience designing electronics packaging for severe environments (MIL-STD-810).
• Proficiency with 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks or CREO.

Responsibilities

• Lead products through full lifecycle from concept to production release.
• Design mechanical packaging, connectors, cables, and labels for rugged subsystems and PCB assemblies.
• Collaborate with Hardware, Electrical, Manufacturing, Quality, and Procurement teams.
• Develop and maintain BOMs and configuration controls.
• Draft and manage Engineering Change Requests and Orders (ECRs/ECOs).
• Create 3D models and engineering drawings and produce documentation.
• Support MIL-STD-810 environmental testing and verification.
