Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to design and evaluate mechanical systems for coal and natural gas-fired generation facilities, along with related support facilities.

You will lead front-end planning, final design, construction administration, and interfacing with clients and project teams. The role requires strong problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills and may involve piped systems, pumps, and P&IDs across multiple facilities.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• FE exam completed; PE preferred.
• 7 years of related mechanical experience.
• EPC project experience preferred.
• Professional Engineer license preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication and analytical skills.
• Capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge to broad assignments.
• Experience with Arrow, Fathom, SmartPlant P&ID a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop cost opinions, work plans, and schedules.
• Provide leadership guidance to less experienced staff.
• Regularly meets and corresponds with clients or outside personnel.
• Lead mechanical design projects related to natural gas and coal-fired generation facilities.
• Air Quality Control Systems and Effluent Limitation Guideline Management.
• Equipment sizing and application.
• Hydraulic calculations and pump sizing/selection.
• Pipe and valve sizing and material selection.
• Pipe supports and routing.
• P&ID’s and instrumentation placement.
• Mechanical Equipment Condition Assessment and Lifecycle cost analysis.
• Plumbing (sanitary & potable water) and pumping/piping of fluids or gasses.
• Other duties as assigned.
