Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Generation) to lead mechanical design for thermal generation and district energy projects. The role involves coordinating with clients and vendors, mentoring team members, and ensuring designs meet codes and standards across multiple U.S.

locations, including Houston and Boise. The candidate will drive project budgets, perform sizing and piping analyses, and develop P&IDs while maintaining QA/QC and safety standards.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
• Experience designing mechanical systems for power generation and district energy projects.
• Strong communication and leadership skills for client interaction and mentoring.
• Ability to coordinate with piping designers and drafters.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design projects for thermal generation and district energy facilities, overseeing budgets, hours, and expenses.
• Interface with clients, equipment vendors and contractors.
• Mentor and direct junior staff.
• Coordinate design with piping designers and drafters.
• Perform equipment sizing calculations and piping pressure drop calculations.
• Prepare P&IDs including pipe and valve sizing for power plant systems.
• Route piping and design pipe supports.
• Prepare scopes of work for mechanical construction.
• Conduct engineering studies such as condition assessments or cost estimates.
• Apply engineering techniques and codes to projects; ensure QA/QC adherence.
• Travel to client sites 5%-10% to verify conditions and monitor progress.
• Adhere to WSP Code of Conduct and related policies.
