Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Kansas City, MO is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead design project teams across power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline and industrial facilities. The role oversees design through construction, coordinating scopes, budgets, and schedules while ensuring QA/QC and vendor interface.

The ideal candidate will apply ASME/ANSI/API/NACE codes, mentor engineers, and develop cost proposals. Travel up to 25% is required and a PE license is preferred.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited bachelor required with 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience; EPC project exp preferred.
• ABET-accredited bachelor in Mechanical Eng. Tech with FE exam and 7+ yrs exp; EPC exp preferred.
• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 6+ yrs exp preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design for projects from concept to design completion.
• Prepare equipment specs, RFQs, bid summaries and purchase recommendations.
• Review vendor drawings and interface with suppliers, clients and other disciplines.
• Develop project schedules, scopes, budgets, and staffing plans; manage change orders.
• Apply standard mechanical engineering practices and codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE).
• Lead complex projects, delegate tasks, and guide execution within a team.
• Perform QA/QC on detailed drawings and engineering documents.
• Coordinate field inspections and resolve design issues during construction.
• Present technical reports to clients and industry publications.
• Build client relationships and identify new business opportunities.
