Job summary

Arup's West Coast mechanical team seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead HVAC design for life science and laboratory projects, as well as other commercial buildings. You will participate in multi-disciplinary design and drive sustainable, decarbonized solutions for clients across the U.S.

The role sits in San Diego or San Francisco, offers mentoring of team members, and requires strong communication with stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional experience designing and building HVAC systems for medium to large scale commercial buildings, including labs.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit MEP for project documentation.
• Familiarity with CMC, IECC/ASHRAE 90.1, LEED, indoor air quality and NFPA.
• Strong communication, presentation, and multi-disciplinary collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical designs and provide multi-disciplinary design leadership on projects.
• Design of airside systems, hydronic plants, exhaust, and steam systems.
• Coordinate with disciplines and project managers to deliver integrated designs.
• Mentor team members and maintain strong client relations for project delivery.
• Prepare drawings, specifications, technical reports, and sustainability-focused analyses.
