Job summary

Arup on the West Coast is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary team focusing on Life Science/Laboratory projects. The role involves leading mechanical designs, airside systems, hydronic plants, and specialty exhaust systems, collaborating with stakeholders and code officials to deliver integrated projects.

You will mentor team members, maintain strong client relations, and help deliver sustainable, decarbonized building solutions across commercial and research

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or architectural engineering.
  • 8 or more years of professional experience designing and building HVAC systems, including airside and hydronic components for medium to large scale commercial buildings, including lab buildings.
  • AutoCAD and Revit MEP proficiency.
  • Familiarity with codes and standards (CMC, IECC/ASHRAE 90.1, LEED, NFPA).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for team-based work.
  • Presentation skills with colleagues and clients at all levels.

Our West Coast mechanical team is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary team, with a focus on Life Science/Laboratory work. Arup is known for designing innovative and sustainable solutions for our clients throughout the United States, and sometimes globally.


This role can sit in San Diego or Francisco


You will work on lab/life science projects as well as other commercial building types. Your projects will offer the ability to make a strong contribution to the community while delivering cutting edge systems that will meet challenges in decarbonization and sustainability. Our aim is transforming clients to deliver a sustainable future while also meeting goals around resiliency and critical care.


The Opportunity:


  • Leading mechanical engineering designs and providing multi-disciplinary design leadership on projects. Design of mechanical systems including complete airside systems, heating and cooling hydronic plant systems, specialty exhaust systems, and steam systems. Working in collaboration with different stakeholders and code officials to deliver integrated projects through construction.

  • Coordinating with multiple disciplines and working in conjunction with project managers to deliver comprehensive and coordinated design deliverables.

  • Assisting, Supervising or mentoring team members and delivering timely feedback and recognition to others.

  • Maintain strong client relations as it pertains to project delivery and repeat business.

  • Prepare drawings, specifications, technical reports and presentation materials and incorporate sustainable design methods in buildings.

  • Presenting technical material in traditional and innovative ways for review by technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Participating in local Professional Associations.

  • Responsible for quality standards, commercial metrics, and client relations for projects.

The skills:


  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or architectural engineering.

  • 8 or more years of professional experience designing and building HVAC systems, including airside and hydronic system components for medium to large scale commercial buildings, including lab buildings.

  • AutoCAD and Revit MEP proficiency.

  • Familiarity with codes and standards, specifically CMC, IECC/ASHRAE 90.1, LEED energy efficiency and indoor quality and NFPA.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based work.

  • Presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels and commercial/financial awareness.

  • The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and exceptional organization skills required for our constantly evolving environment.


Preferred Skills:


  • Professional Engineering License in US.

  • LEED Accreditation or WELL Certification.

  • Engineering analysis and energy modeling experience including whole building energy analysis, façade thermal analysis, and airflow modeling.
