Job summary

EXP is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the MEP team in the Buildings sector, based in San Francisco or Walnut Creek, CA. You will direct HVAC and piping design for Science/Technology and Life Sciences projects, ensuring compliance with codes and sustainable goals.

You will mentor junior designers, manage multiple projects, and coordinate with architectural and structural disciplines, while advancing equipment selection and project delivery within scope and budget.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in HVAC/Mechanical Engineering; 15+ years of building HVAC and piping design experience.
• Experience designing HVAC systems for Science/Technology, Life Sciences or Healthcare projects.
• Project Management experience and leadership of multidisciplinary teams.
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred.
• REVIT MEP proficiency required.

Responsibilities

• Identify, research, and qualify RFP/RFQ and upcoming projects for go/no go potential.
• Direct and lead submittals in response to RFP/RFQ.
• Manage existing and develop new client relationships.
• QA/QC reviews of calculations by designers and provide guidance.
• Coordinate with other disciplines (MEP/FP, architectural, structural).
• Develop scope of work narratives and equipment room sizes.
