WSP USA is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Portland, ME to plan and execute projects with independent judgment and engineering rigor. You will design HVAC systems, perform load calculations, and select equipment while coordinating with project managers and building teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering with prior mechanical design experience.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and interpretation of code compliance requirements and industry standards.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, decision making and analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong influencing and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to flexible responsibilities.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Experience with Horizon or Project Resource Management software is preferred.
  • Ability to meet and exceed client expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare basic deliverables including calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Set deadlines and assign responsibilities.
  • Examine field conditions to support development and completion of projects.
  • Design mechanical systems including calculations of heating and cooling loads per QA/QC.
  • Select and layout mechanical equipment such as pumps, chiller, fans and boilers.
  • Develop project specifications.
  • Attend meetings with architects, owners and building managers to discuss projects.
  • Assist in business development by pursuing new work including client presentations.
  • Assist in the firm’s human resources efforts through training and mentoring junior staff.
  • Enhance the firm’s reputation by owning outcomes for client requests.
  • Demonstrate core values and mentor firm members.
  • Update job knowledge through education and professional activities.
