Job summary

Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the CHGB Mechanical Structures IPT for the Common Hypersonic Glide Body program. You will drive technical execution, plans, risk management, and interface with design agents and supplier teams.

The role requires leading complex mechanical subsystem design efforts, coordinating reviews, and ensuring manufacturability and timely hardware delivery.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree required with 12+ years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams or IPTs for complex mechanical subsystems.
• Experience planning and coordinating engineering activities, managing deliverables and schedules.
• Proficiency with CAD tools (Creo, CATIA, AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
• Experience in PLM environments and GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
• Strong communication, leadership and mentorship skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering activities for the CHGB Mechanical Structures IPT, including technical execution and issue resolution.
• Develop and maintain engineering plans, schedules, manage risks, and coordinate deliverables.
• Define mechanical assembly components, subsystems, and ground support equipment in the TDP.
• Lead technical peer reviews and drive resolution of complex engineering issues.
• Interface with design agent and Industry IPT to align engineering decisions.
• Incorporate design changes to enhance manufacturability and production efficiency.
• Collaborate with manufacturing to resolve bottlenecks and support hardware delivery.
• Coordinate with supplier program managers for timely hardware delivery and producibility improvements.
• Oversee nonconforming hardware dispositions and RCCA investigations.
• Lead FRB process to resolve technical issues.
• Identify risks and opportunities to the ROI Board.
• Represent the program to customers with status updates and engineering visibility.
• Mentor junior engineers across the IPT.
