Job summary

Salas O'Brien is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to provide design, evaluation, and planning of mechanical systems across healthcare, Federal, industrial, municipal, and commercial projects in Charlotte, NC. The role involves leading project teams, client interaction, and ensuring code compliance.

You will work on base building HVAC and specialty systems, perform load calculations, and coordinate with multiple disciplines. A PE, 5+ years’ experience, and Revit/AutoCAD skills are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
• Active professional engineer license in NC or ability to be licensed within 6 months.
• Minimum 5 years of design experience.
• LEED certification/experience is a plus but not required.
• Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and MS Office.
• Familiarity with codes, standards, and design guidelines.
• Excellent work ethic, time management, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Meet with clients to determine and document HVAC and ventilation requirements.
• Develop HVAC and specialized ventilation system designs based on project scope, client RFPs, and hazardous occupancy requirements.
• Provide design, evaluation, and planning of mechanical systems for various building types.
• Perform load/energy calculations using Trace 700, HAP, IES, and similar programs.
• Coordinate work with plumbing, structural, electrical, fire protection, process, and security disciplines.
• Provide construction administration support, including RFI responses and field-condition validation.
• Lead project teams and serve as the primary contact for clients.
