Job summary

RTX is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer for the Mechanical Design organization in Tucson, AZ. The role covers full hardware lifecycle from initial design through production and fielding across multiple product lines.

The successful candidate will lead mechanical teams, collaborate with cross-functional groups, and ensure producibility using GD&T, DFMA, and CREO. US government clearance required for start date.

Qualifications

• Requires STEM degree with 5–8+ years in mechanical product development lifecycle.
• Experience leading mechanical teams across design, integration and test.
• Experience creating and updating mechanical data packages and interpreting docs.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components and major end items.
• Lead and mentor mechanical engineering teams to meet schedule and budgets.
• Collaborate with analysts, materials, quality, safety, supply chain, and leadership to refine designs.
• Support factories and suppliers with product development and obsolescence management.
• Conduct trade studies and participate in design peer reviews.
• Apply thermal, structural, dynamic, and reliability analyses to improve designs.
• Develop and maintain the technical data package (TDP).
• Serve as responsible engineer or subsystem lead with limited supervision.
