AECOM is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for the Data Center and Mission Critical team in the United States. The role is primarily remote with occasional travel and can be based from US locations where AECOM has offices.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree with 8+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
• P.E. registration is required.

Responsibilities

• Data Center Heat Rejection and HVAC System Design, including air-cooled or direct fluid cooled approaches; consider loads, redundancy, energy efficiency and standards.
• Cooling System Selection for data centers (CRAHs, chilled water, DX, in-row cooling, containment).
• CFD Analysis to optimize airflow, identify hotspots and support design modifications; coordination with other trades.
• Redundancy and Fault Tolerance design for continuous operation, including backup cooling and automatic switchover mechanisms.
• Heat Load Calculation and Capacity Planning for IT equipment, power density, and phasing.
• Energy Efficiency and Sustainability strategies (economizers, VSDs, energy recovery).
• Air Quality and Filtration design and monitoring considerations.
• Coordination with Electrical and Mechanical Systems integration with UPS and fire suppression.
