Senior Mechanical Engineer

The Opportunity:

Join CACI's expanding Photonics team as a Mechanical Engineer! Our laser communications technology supports NASA missions, asteroid exploration, biohazard detection, and defense applications. If you are passionate about innovation, apply now!

Responsibilities:
  1. Support the design of photonic hardware.
  2. Design packaging for complex subsystems with photonic, optoelectronic, electrical, and mechanical elements for R&D and production.
  3. Develop high-precision electro-mechanical systems for optical applications.
  4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams for seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, and software components.
  5. Select appropriate motors, sensors, and other components for mechatronic systems.
  6. Develop and integrate control systems for precise motion control and stabilization.
  7. Design and analyze subsystem packaging using software tools.
  8. Produce drawings and data packages; manage vendors to resolve issues and realize parts.
  9. Lead transition of designs into limited volume production, including assembly processes and build procedures.
  10. Collaborate with hardware designers to optimize circuit layouts.
  11. Potentially lead a team of designers and supervise lab technicians.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering + 10 years of related experience or equivalent.
  • Proficient in CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of finite element modeling.
  • Experience designing complex subsystems with optical, photonic, and electronic components.
  • Experience with electronic subassembly layout and optical fiber routing.
  • Understanding of robotics, kinematics, dynamics, and control theory.
  • Experience in sensor, actuator, and control system integration.
  • Proficiency in embedded systems programming.

Desired:

  • Experience with high-power optical fiber amplifiers and space-grade hardware.
  • Experience with MIL-STD environmental testing.
  • Knowledge of LabView, robotics, automation, and programming languages like Python, C++, MATLAB.
  • Master’s degree and active security clearance preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary range: $82,100 - $172,400, influenced by various factors including location, experience, and skills. We offer comprehensive benefits: healthcare, wellness, retirement, education, and more. Learn more here.
