Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer

Location: Chicago, IL (remote with 50-75% travel across the Midwest)

Salary: $120,000 – $140,000 base + discretionary bonus

Overview:

A national A/E/C consulting firm is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support a wide range of projects across the commercial real estate sector. This role involves evaluating building systems, solving complex technical challenges, and contributing to project success through expertise in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection systems.

You’ll work with real estate owners, investors, and lenders throughout the property lifecycle, with opportunities for leadership, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and impactful project involvement across office, multi-family, retail, industrial, hospitality, government, and education sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform property condition assessments (PCAs) and provide cost estimates
• Conduct energy audits, system commissioning, and forensic evaluations
• Peer review building system designs and documentation
• Evaluate and design HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection systems
• Conduct construction management and field assessments
• Prepare technical reports and communicate findings to clients and stakeholders
• Travel to project sites across the U.S. as required

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required
• Minimum 15 years of experience in MEP system design, evaluation, and consulting
• Strong project management and client engagement experience
• Expertise in HVAC and plumbing systems; working knowledge of electrical and fire protection systems
• Familiarity with national and state building codes
• Experience with energy audits, commissioning, and sustainability consulting
• LEED or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) credentials are a plus
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, PlanGrid, and Box

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to walk construction sites and building interiors, including stairs, ladders, and confined spaces
• Must be able to safely navigate uneven terrain and active construction zones
• Ability to work in outdoor or non-conditioned environments
• Travel up to 75% across Midwest region.
