Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Senior Designer 1 to lead advanced mechanical design for Oil & Gas and Power projects, developing complex 3D models and coordinating multi-discipline deliverables. You will mentor junior drafters to ensure high-quality outputs.

The role offers a hybrid schedule with three days in the office and two days remote. You will support field activities and client Walkdowns, contributing to constructability and timely project execution across multiple projects.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in drafting, or high school diploma with drafting coursework or equivalent technical experience.
• Ten or more years of detailed mechanical design experience in mechanical general arrangements, piping systems, and supports.
• High proficiency with 3D plant layout and mechanical design software tools used to execute integrated physical design work.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate mechanical design deliverables, interface with other disciplines, and guide junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Independently develop and coordinate complex mechanical physical layout drawings and integrated 3D design models for multidisciplinary project teams.
• Lead challenging design assignments involving mechanical systems, troubleshooting, and resolution of a broad range of mechanical design issues.
• Plan and execute key deliverables such as general arrangements, piping isometrics, piping composites, pipe support drawings, and equipment location drawings.
• Review mechanical equipment outlines and interface points and coordinates the development of associated design deliverables.
• Accompany engineers on field walkdowns and client site data gathering activities and use field information to improve design accuracy and constructability.
• Provide technical guidance in drafting tools, mentor less experienced staff, and help ensure complete and timely project execution.
• Coordinate effectively with engineering and design teams from other disciplines throughout the plant design process.
