Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks an experienced mechanical designer to develop 3D plant layout drawings and lead the detail design process for multi‑disciplined teams at the Duane Arnold Energy Center. The role includes mentoring junior staff, coordinating piping isometrics, and validating interfaces across equipment and supports.

The position may start remote with possible later hybrid work arrangement, requiring onsite presence during design phases and field data collection as needed.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in drafting or HS diploma with drafting coursework and related experience.
• 10+ years of detailed physical design in mechanical general arrangements, piping systems, and supports.
• Proficiency with design software tools for 3D plant layout models.
• Experience reviewing mechanical equipment, outlines and interfaces, and coordinating related deliverables.
• Ability to interface with engineering and design teams in power plant design.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical layout drawings in 3D models under Mechanical Project Lead.
• Design mechanical systems and troubleshoot a wide range of issues.
• Generate mechanical design schematics using 3D modeling tools.
• Lead coordination of detailed design phases for the integrated model.
• Coordinate and guide other designers to ensure complete, timely design.
• Plan and execute deliverables such as arrangements, piping isometrics, and equipment locations.
• Possibly conduct field walkdowns and data gathering at client facilities.
• Mentor less experienced drafters and designers.
