Job summary

The Recruiting Hive is assisting a client in Buffalo, NY to recruit a Senior Engineering Manager who will lead product design engineering from customer requirements through design validation and production release.

The role demands significant design engineering experience, guiding technical decisions, and developing engineers while ensuring project delivery and product quality across complex engineered assemblies.

Qualifications

• Progressive product design engineering experience with responsibility for complex technical decisions.
• Engineering leadership experience managing people and multiple development projects.
• Strong command of mechanical design, CAD, GD&T, tolerance analysis, materials, and verification methods.
• Ability to remain technically engaged in detailed design reviews and guide engineers through difficult design problems.
• Clear communication with customers, commercial teams, manufacturing personnel, and senior leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the engineering team, establish priorities, allocate resources, and manage project commitments.
• Provide hands-on technical direction for product architecture, mechanical design, materials selection, tolerances, and design verification.
• Lead concept, preliminary, and detailed design reviews; challenge assumptions and resolve technical risks before release.
• Translate customer performance, environmental, and interface requirements into clear engineering specifications and validation plans.
• Oversee drawings, bills of materials, design calculations, engineering changes, and controlled product release.
• Partner with sales and customers on technical feasibility, proposals, and custom product solutions.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and quality to improve manufacturability, address field or production failures, and support new product introduction.
• Build engineering capability through coaching, clear technical standards, and consistent design and project management practices.
