Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for our client, a leading manufacturer of specialized industrial equipment, to join the engineering team at the East London facility in the Eastern Cape.

You will conceptualize, design, and develop innovative mechanical systems, lead design projects from concept to production, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure practical, high-performance solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, with a focus on industrial equipment or machinery.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA) and FEA tools.
• Strong understanding of material science, mechanics of materials, and thermodynamics.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of complex mechanical systems and components for industrial equipment.
• Utilize advanced CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA) for 3D modeling, drafting, and simulation.
• Perform stress analysis, thermal analysis, and other engineering calculations to ensure design integrity and performance.
• Develop detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical documentation for manufacturing.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are feasible for production and cost-effective.
• Oversee prototyping and testing phases, providing technical guidance and troubleshooting design issues.
• Research and evaluate new materials, technologies, and manufacturing processes to enhance product design.
• Work with electrical engineers and software developers to integrate mechanical systems with control systems.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership within the design team.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and customer specifications.
