Advanced Laser Systems Technology (ALST) in Orlando, FL, is seeking a Sr. Specialist, Mechanical Design Engineer to advance electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical designs for laser range finders and designators used on military platforms.

You will lead concept layouts to detailed drawings, coordinating with experts across the organization to solve complex engineering challenges. The role emphasizes independent work, technical direction, and collaboration with customers and internal teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering with EO/optical focus recommended.
• 6+ years mechanical engineering experience; 4+ years if graduate degree.
• Experience with EO/optical/mechanical designs for defense products.
• SolidWorks proficiency and 3D CAD experience required.
• GD&T knowledge and ability to document engineering changes.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design of high-reliability military subsystems using SolidWorks 2026.
• Develop and review engineering drawings, specs, and test plans.
• Carry out basic stress, tolerance, and finite element analyses.
• Support assembly, integration, and test of products or prototypes.
• Lead or participate in design reviews and documentation efforts.
• Provide input for thermal, flow, and vibration analyses.
• Coordinate with Purchasing and CM for materials and changes.
• Travel 10-20% to meet milestones.
