Job summary

ALST, located in Orlando, Florida, is seeking a Sr. Specialist, Mechanical Design Engineer to lead electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical design of laser range finders and designators for military applications. The role requires independent work and collaboration with internal/external customers, with onsite requirements.

Responsibilities include design, documentation, analysis and support through production, with travel up to 20% as schedules demand. U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years or graduate degree with 4+ years of relevant experience.
• 6+ years mechanical engineering experience with EO/optics/laser focus in the defense industry.
• 6+ years recent experience with SolidWorks; 4+ years with GD&T and drawings.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design of high reliability military subsystems using Solidworks 2026.
• Develop reviews and approve engineering documentation, including product specs, drawings, assembly procedures and test plans.
• Perform basic stress analysis and tolerance analysis.
• Support the assembly, integration and test of products or prototypes.
• Provide input for structural, thermal and vibration analyses and work with manufacturing and QA teams.
