Job summary

RTX's Hardware Mechanical Engineering team in Portsmouth, RI, is seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to lead hardware design, analysis, and production support for military programs.

You will model components and assemblies, perform tolerance analyses, guide small teams, and coordinate with internal and external partners to meet schedule and cost goals. Travel domestically and internationally may be required.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience.
• Experience in the creation, review and interpretation of technical documentation used in hardware or tooling development/production.
• Experience in mechanical design, development, manufacturing or tooling processes.

Responsibilities

• Design innovative solutions across the product lifecycle, including proposal, development, design, cooling, manufacturing, integration and testing of hardware for military programs.
• Perform tolerance analyses to ensure form, fit and function.
• Lead small teams with strong mechanical design experience in a fast-paced environment.
• Provide support for product integration in domestic and international locations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor engineers, and participate in design reviews.
