Job summary

RTX is seeking an experienced mechanical design engineer in Portsmouth, RI, to lead the design, development, and documentation of defense system components. You will collaborate with structural, thermal, and electrical teams to solve complex challenges and support fabrication and supplier integration.

The role requires a STEM degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, GD&T proficiency, and US citizenship for DoD clearance.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a STEM degree and 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience leading small development efforts and teams with cost/schedule responsibility.
• Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and metal fabrication.
• Proficiency in CAD modeling and Engineering Documentation practices.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance; US citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment.
• Collaborate across disciplines to solve complex technical challenges in a fast-paced team environment.
• Support factory and suppliers with product integration and design reviews.
• Conduct trade studies and design reviews to drive sound technical decisions.
• Work with limited supervision to meet schedule, cost, and technical goals.
