Job summary

Honeywell Aerospace Materials Engineering seeks a Lead Materials Engineer (Mechanical Design) to provide technical leadership from its Torrance, CA facility, supporting local design and manufacturing as well as global Aero materials activities and supplier support.

As the Materials Subject Matter Expert in welding, metal joining, and metallurgy, you will guide design reviews, production support, supplier engagement, and technology development across programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Material Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 8+ years of experience in materials engineering.
• Experience with aerospace metallurgical processes, especially welding and metal joining.
• Ability to perform drawing reviews to ensure material/process requirements are met.
• Understanding of relevant regulations and business processes.

Responsibilities

• Establish regular partnership with Materials Engineering management on technical matters and projects.
• Serve as a role model technical leader and foster the Materials Engineering organization.
• Provide technical training, coaching, and mentoring to develop engineers.
• Lead in all phases of the product lifecycle as a technical lead (materials selection, design reviews, production support).
• Promote training and growth opportunities for less experienced engineers.
• Participate in technical special process groups at multiple Honeywell sites and suppliers.
• Represent Materials Eng at external customer and regulatory engagements.
• Develop aerospace-level engineering processes and guidelines.
