Job summary

American Cruise Lines seeks experienced Mates for our U.S. flag fleet.

Mates are senior shipboard officers reporting to the Captain and are responsible for safe vessel operations, adherence to company and regulatory standards, and representing the company as professional leaders on inland and coastal waterways. We value seasoned mariners with piloting experience on coastal and river waterways, who supervise deck teams and develop piloting skills on routes such as the Great Lakes and St.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Coast Guard Mate’s license required: 100 GRT with Near Coastal endorsement; 1,600 GRT preferred.
  • TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) required.
  • 2+ years mate experience on coastal/river waterways; 5+ years with Z-drive preferred.
  • Basic marine engineering knowledge: diesel machinery, hydraulics, liquid load management.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Pre-employment drug test and ongoing random testing.
  • Familiarity with Great Lakes/Montreal Seaway routes and U.S. port operations is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety and security of passengers, crew, and vessel.
  • Operate vessel per company and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct daily inspections of all vessel spaces.
  • Supervise, lead, and develop deck officers.
  • Oversee cleaning, sanitation, maintenance, and logistics.
  • Conduct orientation, training, watch standing, and drills.
  • Collaborate with Hotel Officers and Service Crew to deliver five-star service.
  • Maintain documentation of operations and compliance.
