Job summary

Serco Inc. is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join its Maritime Engineering Operation in Arlington, VA, supporting naval and commercial ship systems.

You will lead design of marine electrical systems, develop technical documentation, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. You will collaborate with mechanical, naval architecture, and software teams, travel for ship checks, and interface with clients and yards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, marine engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in design of marine electrical systems with professional engineering firms, shipyards, or marine contractors.
• Ability to obtain/maintain DoD Secret clearance.
• Strong knowledge of electrical design principles and applying industry standards.
• Experience with MS Office, MATLAB, Simulink, Simulink Coder, and PLC programming.
• Ability to interpret drawings, standards (46 CFR, ABS, SOLAS, IEEE, IEC, NEC) and write requirements/SOW.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and specification of marine electrical systems from concept to construction, including power distribution, switchboards, propulsion, automation, and monitoring.
• Produce and review electrical design documentation: single-line diagrams, schematics, load analyses, and cable schedules.
• Provide project cost and schedule estimates.
• Ensure compliance with marine standards and class rules.
• Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, and sea trials.
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Interface with clients, shipyards, vendors, and classification societies.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the project lifecycle.
