Job summary

Blue Origin LLC seeks an experienced Manufacturing & Tooling Development Engineer III to lead the design, development, and validation of assembly tooling for high-precision mechanical assemblies, including actuators, gearboxes, motors, and motion control units. The Colorado team supports NASA, defense, and commercial programs.

You will be the technical authority for tooling across the product lifecycle, driving build quality, repeatability, and schedule performance in a high-volume production

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years in manufacturing or tooling engineering in an aerospace, defense, or high-precision assembly environment.
• Hands-on experience leading the design and development of assembly fixtures, build aids, handling fixtures, and installation tools for complex precision mechanical assemblies
• Experience developing and executing assembly tooling validation plans, including fit checks, assembly runoff studies, repeatability assessments, and formal qualification documentation

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end design of assembly fixtures, build aids, handling fixtures, installation tools, and torque tooling for complex precision mechanical assemblies.
• Develop and execute formal tooling validation plans with dimensional verification, fit checks, and repeatability assessments.
• Review drawings for GD&T and advise on datum structure and tolerancing strategies.
• Participate in design reviews (PDR/CDR) as tooling SME to drive DFA and reduce tooling complexity.
• Develop assembly process plans and traveler sequences with Lean principles.
