Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead tooling design and analysis for rocket engines in Titusville, FL. You will design production and development tooling for multiple business units and work across teams to deliver robust fixtures and machines.

The role requires CAD/FEM expertise, hands-on testing, and strong collaboration to meet safety, quality, cost, and schedule goals in a fast-paced aerospace environment.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years' experience with design, build, and commissioning of tooling, fixtures, custom machines or design support equipment for manufacturing, assembly, and test.
• Experience with FEM and complex structural analysis in addition to the ability to perform hand calculations including the creation of Freebody diagrams
• Proven experience with CAD based design software for modeling and drafting.
• Basic understanding of common manufacturing materials, GD&T, and tolerance/stack-up analysis

Responsibilities

• Design production, development, test, integration, and advanced manufacturing tooling and equipment for the Blue Engines, Lunar, and New Glenn business units.
• Capable of integrating concepts and principles of mechanical design and analysis of several projects in a fast-paced environment -- projects will vary in size and scale.
• Ability to interpret and apply sound design and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5) when creating drawings.
• Handle a wide range of technical design challenges related to all types of assembly fixtures, material handlers, rotisseries, test fixtures, structural weldments, environmental chambers, and custom machines.
• Close collaboration with component designers, manufacturing engineers, and integration engineering to achieve the best possible cradle-to-grave metrics (safety, cost, quality, cycle time, delivery, reliability, life, and maintenance/refurbishment)
• Manage projects, including vendor selection, fabrication, inspection, equipment installation, proof testing, and commissioning of custom tooling.
• Set, implement, and maintain schedules and budgets to ensure project completion.
