Job summary

L3Harris Technologies in Huntsville, AL is seeking a Senior Specialist, Manufacturing Engineer 1 to lead advanced composite fabrication processes on defense programs. The role requires championing lean improvements, mentoring engineers, and coordinating program transitions, with on-site work and occasional off-shift demands.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years in manufacturing engineering or a graduate degree with 4+ years, or 10+ years without a degree. Travel is ~5%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus 6+ years in Manufacturing Engineering; or a graduate degree with 4+ years; or 10+ years without a degree.
• Lean/ Six Sigma knowledge and experience driving process improvements.
• Experience training and mentoring engineers.
• Experience with new equipment qualifications and qualification plans.
• Strong GD&T background and part validation.
• Experience with composites, insulation materials, or similar.

Responsibilities

• Lead Lean manufacturing improvement projects on critical programs.
• Mentor less experienced engineers on design and process issues.
• Lead transitions of programs to Huntsville facilities.
• Plan, develop, and maintain processes for fabrication of advanced composite parts.
• Create detailed work instructions, PFMEAs, and JSAs meeting design, process, safety and environmental requirements.
• Provide shop floor support for advanced composite manufacturing processes.
• Provide technical guidance to shop floor, design and management teams.
• Analyze drawings and specs to develop robust part/tooling designs.
• Interface with support groups to ensure accuracy, control and safety of personnel and hardware.
• Investigate nonconforming hardware and implement corrective actions.
• Present fabrication processes at customer readiness reviews.
• Travel: 5% and occasional off-shift/weekend support.
