Job summary

Merck & Co. is seeking a Senior Specialist in Manufacturing Automation for its Dallas, Texas facility.

You will provide technical leadership across capital projects and manufacturing operations, from startup through routine operation, ensuring reliability and continuous improvement of automation systems. The role requires seven years of experience in process automation, strong PLC/HMI skills, VFD configuration, and collaboration with cross-functional teams, IT, and suppliers.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
Minimum seven years of relevant experience in process/ manufacturing automation or related fields.
Experience developing, modifying, troubleshooting, and supporting PLC- and HMI-based control systems.
Experience supporting equipment installation, startup, commissioning, qualification, or validation activities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

Develops PLC and HMI code for new equipment and supports existing control systems.
Configures and commissions VFDs and industrial networks.
Provides on-floor technical support for manufacturing operations.
Troubleshoots automation and manufacturing-system issues and implements corrective actions.
Leads project coordination, vendor testing, and change-control activities.
Oversees contractors to ensure technical and schedule requirements are met.
