Job summary

MSD in Gaithersburg, MD is seeking a software engineer to design and program high-performance automation systems for assembly, inspection, and reagent dispensing of microplate test kits and microfluidic cartridges. You will work with R&D, Manufacturing and QA to support new product development and enhance manufacturing capabilities through automation.

You will configure, validate, and troubleshoot automation hardware and software, review technical documents, and lead design and code reviews

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field is required.
Seven+ years of automation software design experience.
Experience with industrial robots, motors, controllers, and/or sensors.
Seven+ years of programming in C#/.Net or other OOP languages (Java, C++, etc.) or seven+ years with PLCs and ladder logic/structured text.
Experience with XML, SQL, networking, protocols, GUI design and DB management.
MATLAB and scripting languages experience.
Hardware/software integration experience.
Machine vision and image processing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Lead design and development of new software to control manufacturing and R&D equipment.
Oversee maintenance and updates of existing software.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support automation needs of new product development.
Configure, validate, and troubleshoot automation software and hardware.
Review and edit requirements, release notes, and work instructions.
Participate in design and code reviews and milestone reviews.
Interact with vendors to source equipment and components.
Support R&D and other departments in new product development.
Analyze processes and equipment to propose improvements for management review.
Design and lead development of new solutions to improve manufacturing quality and capacity.
Manage project schedules and timelines.
Mentor staff on automation software development processes.
Perform other engineering duties as assigned.
