Job summary

American Society of Civil Engineers in Reston, VA seeks a Senior Manager, Student Conferences and Competitions to lead programs that deliver exceptional experiences for student members through regional symposia, competitions, and the ASCE Civil Engineering Student Championships.

You will coordinate planning, events, and communications across North America and select international locations, while supporting volunteers and student chapters to foster leadership and professional development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in association management or a similar environment.
  • Experience in event planning, project management, volunteer engagement, or community relations.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Experience with association management systems, content management platforms, and/or member engagement tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning and coordination for 21 annual regional student symposia.

  • Manage event registration, websites, communications, surveys, and reporting.
  • Support student competitions, including rules committees, judges, partner organizations, and competition logistics.

  • Support ASCE Civil Engineering Student Championships, including finalist eligibility, registrations, and onsite operations.
  • Develop and maintain resources, guides, and communications for volunteers and participants.
  • Manage budgets, vendor invoices, reimbursements, and program records.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure successful student engagement initiatives and events.

Job description

Are you passionate about supporting the next generation of civil engineers? The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is seeking an organized, collaborative, and customer-focused Senior Manager, Student Conferences and Competitions to lead programs that create exceptional experiences for student members through regional student symposia, competitions, and the ASCE Civil Engineering Student Championships.

What You'll Do

As Senior Manager, you'll play a key role in delivering impactful student programs and supporting volunteers, university student chapters, and competition participants across North America as well as select international locations. You'll:

  • Lead planning and coordination for 21 annual regional student symposia
  • Serve as the primary liaison to student symposium hosts (student chapters) and volunteer leadership teams
  • Manage event registration, websites, communications, surveys, and reporting
  • Support student competitions, including rules committees, judges, partner organizations, and competition logistics

What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field
  • At least 6 years of experience in association management or a similar environment
  • Experience in event planning, project management, volunteer engagement, or community relations
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications
  • Experience with association management systems, content management platforms, and/or member engagement tools is a plus
  • A passion for supporting student success and professional development
Location: Hybrid (Reston, VA)

This position offers hybrid work flexibility in the Northern Virginia/Washington, DC metro area and requires occasional travel and weekend support for student symposia, championships, and other meetings and events.

The anticipated salary range for this position is from $85-95K per year with comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, legal, and pet insurance, 12 paid holidays, 18 days PTO (accrued over the year), corporate ASAE membership, and tuition reimbursement.
