Job summary

Uber is seeking a Senior Manager to lead a world-class data science team focused on UberEats delivery experiences for eaters and merchants. You will set vision, mentor senior ICs, and drive high-impact initiatives that shape strategy and product outcomes.

You will partner across Engineering, Product, Ops, and Design to design experiments, improve pricing and ML applications, and ensure robust data foundations and observability for rapidly evolving product areas.

Qualifications

• Ph.D., MS, or Bachelor's degree in Math, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, or other quantitative fields.
• Minimum 10 years of industry experience as a Scientist or equivalent (8+ years with a Ph.D.).
• Minimum 4 years of experience in people management, with a proven track record of managing managers and senior individual contributors.
• Proven leadership in influencing long-term strategy and technical direction, identifying high-leverage initiatives that span multiple organizations.
• Strategic organizational skills, including the ability to restructure teams as necessary and find synergies between disparate groups to drive impact.
• Advanced expertise in experimental design, causal inference, and machine learning model development within production environments.
• Proficiency with Python or R for large-scale data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high-performing organization of scientists, including mentoring senior ICs and coaching other people managers to do their best work.
• Define the technical vision and roadmap for critical product areas, balancing customer empathy with business needs and practical engineering constraints.
• Drive strategic thinking in marketplace design, pricing algorithms, and machine learning applications to ensure efficiency, reliability, and long-term system health.
• Refine ambiguous, high-impact business questions into structured analytical frameworks and deliver actionable insights in executive leadership forums.
• Guide the establishment of data foundations, instrumentation, and observability infrastructure for rapidly evolving product areas.
• Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, Ops, and Design to iterate on strategy and execute high-visibility initiatives that move the needle for Uber.
