Uber is seeking a Senior Manager of Science to lead a talented team of scientists, define the technical roadmap, and drive high-impact analytics across UberEats experiences for eaters and merchants.

You will guide cross-functional efforts, shape advanced analytics, and ensure scalable data foundations to support long-term product health and business outcomes. This role emphasizes leadership, strategy, and hands-on ML.

Qualifications

• Ph.D., M.S., or Bachelor’s degree in Math, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, or other quantitative fields.
• Minimum 10 years of industry experience as a Scientist or equivalent (8+ years with a Ph.D.).
• Minimum 4 years of experience in people management, with proven track record of managing managers and senior ICs.
• Proven leadership in influencing long-term strategy and technical direction across multiple orgs.

What You'll Do

• Lead and develop a high-performing organization of scientists, including mentoring senior ICs and coaching other people managers to do their best work.
• Define the technical vision and roadmap for critical product areas, balancing customer empathy with business needs and practical engineering constraints.
• Drive strategic thinking in marketplace design, pricing algorithms, and machine learning applications to ensure efficiency, reliability, and long-term system health.
• Refine ambiguous, high-impact business questions into structured analytical frameworks and deliver actionable insights in executive leadership forums.
• Guide the establishment of data foundations, instrumentation, and observability infrastructure for rapidly evolving product areas.
• Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, Ops, and Design to iterate on strategy and execute high-visibility initiatives that move the needle for Uber.

Basic Qualifications

• Ph.D., M.S., or Bachelor's degree in Math, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, or other quantitative fields.
• Minimum 10 years of industry experience as a Scientist or equivalent (8+ years with a Ph.D.).
• Minimum 4 years of experience in people management, with a proven track record of managing managers and senior individual contributors.
• Proven leadership in influencing long-term strategy and technical direction, identifying high-leverage initiatives that span multiple organizations.
• Strategic organizational skills, including the ability to restructure teams as necessary and find synergies between disparate groups to drive impact.
• Advanced expertise in experimental design, causal inference, and machine learning model development within production environments.
• Proficiency with Python or R for large-scale data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proven ability to balance analytical rigor with sound business judgment and practical impact.
• Excellent storyteller with the ability to translate deep technical subjects into narratives that influence non-technical executive audiences.
• Track record of prioritizing and driving multiple complex work-streams forward simultaneously in a high-pressure environment.

For New York City, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $252,000 per year - USD $280,000 per year.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $252,000 per year - USD $280,000 per year.

For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $252,000 per year - USD $280,000 per year.

For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan. You will also be eligible for various benefits.

Offices remain key to collaboration and Uber's culture. Unless approved for full remote work, employees must spend at least 50% of their time in-office. Some roles, like those at greenlight hubs, require full-time in-office presence.
