Job summary

Saint Francis Hospital & Medical Center in Hartford, CT seeks an experienced Manager, Anatomic Pathology to lead the daily operations of Histology, Surgical Pathology, Cytology, and Autopsy services. You will oversee staffing, quality, regulatory compliance, and service performance across inpatient, outpatient, and outreach labs.

This role partners with pathologists and clinical leaders to optimize workflows, improve turnaround times, and ensure accurate, timely diagnostic results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a physical, chemical, or biological science; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum five years in Anatomic Pathology with at least three in a lead role.
• Certification HTL(ASCP), CT(ASCP), PA(ASCP), or equivalent; meets CLIA high-complexity requirements.
• Demonstrated leadership, change management, and talent development skills.
• Proficiency with QA/QC principles, validation/verification, AP instrumentation, LIS/AP-LIS workflows, digital pathology concepts, and continuous improvement (Lean/Six Sigma).

Responsibilities

• Lead daily operations for Histology, Surgical Pathology, Cytology, and Autopsy services, ensuring optimal staffing, workflow, and service excellence.
• Recruit, develop, and manage laboratory colleagues, including training, competency assessment, performance management, and employee engagement.
• Drive quality and regulatory compliance with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, OSHA, and state requirements while maintaining continuous survey readiness.
• Partner with Pathologists and clinical leaders to optimize workflows, turnaround times, service quality, and patient care outcomes.
• Oversee quality management programs, performance metrics, and process improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and diagnostic accuracy.
• Manage laboratory policies, procedures, equipment, technology implementations, and validation activities to support best practices.
• Develop and manage departmental operating and capital budgets, vendor relationships, and resource utilization.
• Collaborate across laboratory and clinical departments to ensure seamless service delivery, effective communication, and continuous improvement.
• Support strategic growth initiatives, digital pathology advancements, and organizational goals through innovation and operational leadership.
