Job summary

MedStar Health’s Washington Hospital Center is seeking a senior leader to manage all operations of the anatomical pathology department, including histology, cytology, surgical pathology, autopsy, molecular biology, electron microscopy, and the A/P customer service office.

The incumbent guides department staff, ensures quality control and regulatory compliance, oversees budgets and billing, and partners with hospital leadership to advance patient care testing and safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or closely related field required.
• Master's degree preferred.
• 8–10 years of laboratory experience with 3+ years in supervisory/management.
• Experience in an acute care hospital or healthcare facility preferred.
• ASCP or ABHI certification required or eligible to sit within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Oversee budgets and financial targets for assigned lab sections.
• Ensure billing accuracy and revenue generation within the departments.
• Ensure patient care testing meets standards and regulatory guidelines.
• Lead staff scheduling, training, and process improvements.
• Prepare for inspections and respond to regulatory inquiries.
• Maintain safety, equipment logs, and laboratory facilities.
