Job summary

Saint Francis Hospital & Medical Center in Hartford, CT seeks an experienced Manager, Anatomic Pathology to lead daily operations across Histology, Surgical Pathology, Cytology and Autopsy. You will build a high-performing team, ensure CLIA/CAP compliance, drive quality metrics, streamline workflows, and partner with pathologists to improve turnaround times and patient care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Physical, Chemical, or Biological Science.
• HTL/ASCP, CT/ASCP, PA/ASCP or equivalent certification.
• Demonstrated leadership and staff development skills.
• Proficiency in QA/QC, validation/verification, and digital pathology concepts.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily operations for Histology, Surgical Pathology, Cytology, and Autopsy services with optimal staffing and workflows.
• Recruit, develop and manage laboratory staff, including training, competency assessment, and performance management.
• Drive quality and regulatory compliance (CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, OSHA) and ensure survey readiness.
• Collaborate with Pathologists and clinical leaders to improve workflows, turnaround times and patient care outcomes.
• Oversee quality management programs and process improvements to boost efficiency and diagnostic accuracy.
• Manage policies, equipment, technology implementations and validation activities.
• Develop and manage departmental operating and capital budgets and vendor relationships.
• Coordinate across departments to ensure seamless service delivery and continuous improvement.
• Support growth initiatives and digital pathology advancements within the lab.
