Job summary

The Illinois Department of Transportation seeks a Maintenance Support Engineer. This Civil Engineer VI will develop policies for operations roadsides, maintain 46,359 lane miles, and lead maintenance and training programs across districts.

The role requires IL licensure as a PE or structural engineer, six years in civil engineering, and three years in supervision. A hybrid in-office schedule is available at our Sangamon County locations with extensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois.
• Six years of experience in civil engineering.
• Three years supervising staff and managing engineering functions.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements policies for maintenance field operations.
• Oversees winter snow and ice removal operations policies for the state highway system.
• Oversees vegetation management policies on highway rights-of-way and rest areas.
• Governs pavement maintenance policies and participates in the Pavement Preservation Committee.
• Provides recommendations on annual program priorities and budgets for maintenance operations.
• Oversees training programs for central office and district personnel.
• Complies with safety rules and supports fair, equitable treatment of employees.
