Job summary

General Motors seeks a Senior Mainframe Software Engineer to design, develop, maintain, and modernize critical enterprise applications on z/OS. You will work across the full SDLC, collaborating with architects, analysts, and stakeholders to ensure secure, scalable, and high-performing systems.

This role requires deep mainframe expertise, CI/CD proficiency, and experience with GenAI tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining reliability and security of GM applications and platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field, or professional experience.
• 7+ years of mainframe software development experience.
• Hands-on with COBOL/PL/I, DB2/IMS and z/OS.
• Experience with modern CI/CD practices and GenAI tooling.
• Knowledge of CICS, VSAM, batch processing and production support.
• Understanding of secure software design and scalable architectures.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, troubleshoot, and modernize enterprise applications on z/OS.
• Translate business requirements into scalable technical designs.
• Perform coding, unit testing, debugging, reviews, and deployment.
• Design data mapping, integration and batch-processing solutions.
• Collaborate with architects and cross-functional teams to ensure GM standards.
• Support modernization, cloud integration, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Promote secure, reusable code and automated testing practices.
• Participate in Agile/DevOps environments and on-call production support.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to teammates.
