Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Mainframe Software Engineer in Michigan to design, develop, and modernize enterprise applications on z/OS. You will work across the full SDLC with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable solutions using COBOL, PL/I, JCL, DB2, IMS, and related technologies.

Responsibilities include analyzing requirements, coding, testing, deployment, and production support while embracing AI-assisted development tools and CI/CD practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/IT/SE or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years mainframe software development experience.
• Strong hands-on with COBOL, PL/I, JCL, DB2, IMS, and z/OS.
• Experience with modern code management and CICD (GitHub, GitActions, Azure DevOps).
• Knowledge of GenAI/AI in development workflows.
• Familiarity with CICS, VSAM, batch processors (IWS/CA7) and prod support.
• SQL and data integration, enterprise interfaces.
• Understanding SDLC and Agile/Waterfall.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and modernize enterprise mainframe applications.
• Translate requirements into scalable designs, perform coding, testing, deployment, and support.
• Collaborate with architects, analysts, and stakeholders to ensure quality and security.
• Support modernization, migration, and cloud integration initiatives.
• Mentor junior team members and participate in on-call rotations.
