Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Senior Leader to guide a mainframe software engineering team, delivering complex solutions across GM business value streams. You will set the roadmap, balance modernization with debt, and drive AI-enabled, secure engineering practices.

The role requires cross-functional collaboration with platform, SRE, and security teams in a hybrid environment, reporting to US-based locations with strong communication to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience delivering and supporting mainframe solutions in a large enterprise environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of mainframe software engineers.
• Own end-to-end delivery for a portfolio of mainframe applications across GM business value streams.
• Translate business priorities into an engineering roadmap and maintain the backlog.
• Balance new features, technical debt, and modernization work.
• Provide technical direction on mainframe design patterns, data models, performance tuning, and system integration.
• Drive adoption of Git-based workflows, code review standards, CI/CD automation, test automation, and repeatable validation.
• Champion secure and thoughtful use of AI in the engineering lifecycle.
• Partner with platform, SRE, and security teams on availability, observability, compliance, and operational excellence.
• Use engineering metrics to guide decisions and continuously improve team processes.
• Represent the team with product, business, and leadership stakeholders, communicating status, risks, and trade-offs.
• Support GM’s mainframe ecosystem modernization toward an automated and AI-enabled software factory.
