Job summary

General Motors is hiring a Senior Mainframe Software Engineer to design, develop, and modernize enterprise applications on z/OS. You will work across the full SDLC with architects, analysts, and cross-functional partners to deliver secure, scalable solutions that meet GM standards.

The role emphasizes COBOL/PL/I, JCL, DB2, IMS, and MAINFRAME tooling, with exposure to AI-assisted development and DevOps practices. On-site collaboration in GM facilities is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in CS/IT.
• 7+ years mainframe software development experience.
• Strong hands-on COBOL, PL/I, JCL, DB2, IMS, and z/OS expertise.
• Experience with CICS, VSAM, batch processing, and production support.
• Understanding of SDLC and Agile/DevOps principles; secure design.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and modernize enterprise GM mainframe applications.
• Analyze requirements and translate them into scalable, secure designs.
• Participate in coding, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to teammates.
• Support on-call and production incidents as needed.
