Job summary

General Motors seeks a Senior Mainframe Software Engineering Manager to lead and evolve a team responsible for GM’s core mainframe apps. You’ll blend people leadership with hands-on technical guidance to deliver secure, reliable, and modernized solutions aligned to business needs.

Hybrid role reporting to Warren, MI or Austin, TX, with travel up to 25% and a focus on engineering excellence, automation, and AI-enabled workflows across Design to Launch, Source to Deliver, and other value streams.

Qualifications

10+ years delivering and supporting mainframe solutions in a large enterprise.
Strong technical background with mainframe technologies (PL/I/COBOL, JCL, IMS/DB, Db2).
Demonstrated people leadership (2+ years) and cross-functional delivery leadership (7+ years).
Experience with Agile delivery, incremental releases, code review, and automated testing.
Proficient with Git-based source control and CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
Ability to operate in a hybrid environment integrating mainframe, distributed, and cloud apps.
Excellent written and verbal communication for diverse stakeholders.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.

Responsibilities

Lead and grow a team of mainframe software engineers.
Own end-to-end delivery for mainframe applications across value streams.
Translate priorities into engineering roadmap and maintain backlog.
Provide technical direction on mainframe design patterns, data models, and performance tuning.
Drive adoption of modern engineering practices including AI in the lifecycle.
