Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a Senior Mainframe Developer to design, build, test, and support healthcare claims applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS, and MQ. You will work with analysts, QA, PMs, and offshore teams to deliver compliant, scalable mainframe solutions in a mostly remote US setup.

The role emphasizes strong analytical and communication skills, with experience in agile development and cross-site collaboration. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

• 8+ years hands-on experience developing mainframe applications with COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS, MQ.
• Experience with healthcare claims adjudication processes and related workflows.
• Knowledge of code migration and release management, including package creation and deployment validation.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills for complex issues.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in an Agile onsite/offshore environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain healthcare claims applications using mainframe technologies.
• Translate requirements into scalable mainframe solutions for claims adjudication workflows.
• Troubleshoot production issues, optimize performance, and conduct code reviews.
• Support testing, deployment, validation, and post-implementation activities.
• Provide technical leadership to offshore team members and coordinate delivery with stakeholders.
