Job summary

Grant Thornton in Chicago seeks a Financial Due Diligence Director to lead buy-side and sell-side engagements for middle-market transactions. You will oversee teams, coordinate cross-functional experts, and deliver thorough due diligence across diverse industries.

Strong leadership, client management, and a track record in M&A advisory are essential. You will mentor staff, drive business development, and manage expectations on timing, deliverables, and outcomes, with up to 25% travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required; Advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of related work experience in a similar consulting practice or function servicing cross-industry clients at a national level required.
• Industry recognized professional certification required; CPA or related license/certification preferred.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, GAAS, SEC Reporting, transaction advisory services or mergers and acquisitions.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and simultaneous projects in a rapidly growing practice.
• Strong leadership, business development, recruitment, training, and mentoring skills.
• Excellent written, presentation, leadership, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Willing to travel up to 25%

Responsibilities

• Lead buy-side and sell-side transactions for our client base including corporate clients, private equity groups and commercial lenders.
• Manage engagements throughout the transaction lifecycle and coordinate other Grant Thornton capabilities with cross-functional teams and international colleagues.
• Serve as the day-to-day point person on engagements; lead meetings with clients and target management.
• Plan, execute, direct and complete financial due diligence for financial and strategic buyers across industries.
• Examine and analyze client data to identify key trends, quality of earnings adjustments and net working capital impacts.
• Draft reports to socialize findings around quality of earnings, net working capital and business performance.
• Manage client expectations concerning timing, progress, deliverables, deadlines, and lead change efforts.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
• Meet or exceed sales targets for new and follow-on work and meet or exceed billed hours.
• Mentor staff on projects and assess performance for reviews.
• Lead and support business development activities like proposals and conferences.
• Motivate others to perform at maximum efficiency without sacrificing quality.
• Interview campus and/or experienced candidates.
• Other duties as assigned
