Job summary

2Life Communities in Newton, MA is seeking a Maintenance Custodian to keep buildings and grounds well‑maintained for residents. The role supports daily operations and enhances the resident experience with cleaning, basic maintenance, and setup duties on a Tue–Sat schedule.

Ideal candidates have 1+ year in general labor, basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and painting, with the ability to lift 50 lbs. A MA driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of general labor or semi-skilled work in a multi‑family or commercial property.
• Knowledge of basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and painting.
• Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds safely.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively in English (written and spoken).
• Must have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Keep buildings clean and safe; mop, vacuum, wash, and maintain floors.
• Maintain exterior cleanliness of building and grounds.
• Perform snow removal and apply salt/sand as directed.
• Set up program and special function rooms as scheduled.
• Carry out basic maintenance tasks (garbage disposals, patching/painting walls, changing locks, replacing bulbs).
• Monitor and operate building equipment and containers.
• Assist with apartment inspections (HUD/MHFA) as scheduled.
• Assist with turnovers of vacant apartments per policy.
• Report unsafe practices to management.
• May accompany contractors as Maintenance Monitor.
