Job summary

Mitchell House in Spruce Pine, NC is seeking an experienced Cook to join our culinary team and prepare nutritious, appetizing meals for residents daily. You will work closely with the Dietary Manager to ensure meals meet dietary needs and preferences while maintaining high quality and presentation.

The role emphasizes following approved menus, maintaining proper sanitation, and delivering meals in a timely manner with warmth and care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior cooking experience in senior living, healthcare, or restaurant setting preferred.
• Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations.
• Ability to follow recipes and meal plans.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Compassion for and a desire to work with the elderly.

Responsibilities

• Food Preparation: Prepare and cook meals according to menu plans, ensuring food is nutritious, appetizing, and prepared to dietary requirements and resident preferences.
• Meal Service: Ensure meals are served in a timely manner, maintaining high standards of quality, portion control, and presentation.
• Kitchen Maintenance: Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment by following food safety and sanitation procedures.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Dietary Manager and kitchen staff to ensure smooth kitchen operations and quality service; assist in training new kitchen staff as needed.
• Inventory Control: Assist with inventory management and help track food supplies; report shortages or order needs to the Dietary Manager.
• Resident Engagement: Respond to special dietary requests and accommodate residents’ food preferences.
• Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to health and safety regulations, including safe food handling and proper sanitation practices.
